Background. The presence of suicidal thoughts among students represents a serious psychological crisis that can negatively affect their physical and mental health. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) is recognized as an effective method for treating suicidal behavior. The relevance of this study lies in using CBT-SP to strengthen the mental health of students with suicidal thoughts and to address existing research gaps in this area. This study may contribute to expanding the application of CBT-SP in this field.

Purpose. The objective of this study is to examine the impact of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) on emotion regulation, attributional style, and impulsive behavior in students with suicidal thoughts.

Materials and methods. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test, post-test, and control group. The population included all students of Altai State University who scored above 6 points on the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI). A total of 22 students voluntarily participated in the study and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received 12 sessions of CBT-SP, while the control group received no intervention. Research instruments included the Beck Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI), the Attributional Style Questionnaire (ASQ), the Short UPPS-P Impulsive Behavior Scale, and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Data were analyzed using SPSS software.

Results. The study results expand understanding of the potential use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) as an effective approach to reduce impulsivity, improve emotion regulation, and correct attributional styles in students with suicidal thoughts. The findings may be useful for psychologists in educational settings for suicide prevention, as well as for psychotherapists and suicide prevention specialists.
